What is GATE?
GATE is an exam organised for admissions to the M.E. and M.Tech. courses. This exam is for those who want to do further studies after their B.Tech. graduation. The full form of GATE is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Apart from further studies GATE is also conducted for recruitment to various PSU's. You get jobs in PSU's based on the GATE rank and your branch.

This year's GATE examination is being conducted by IIT Bombay and the details of the examination can be found on the following sites - These are the official gate websites for each institute - IIT and IISC
Admission Details:
- Online application form filling starts on September 1, 2012.
- Online Application form submission ends on September 30, 2012.
- Students will be selected on the basis of marks obtained.
- Students will have to clear the GATE 2013 cutoff marks and the result will be based on GATE 2013 scorecard.
- GATE 2013 exam schedule -
- Receipt of printed version of online application - 8th October 2012.
- Last Date for request of change of city - 20th November 2012.
- Availability of admit card on online interface - 5th December 2012.
- GATE 2013 online examination - CE papers : Sunday 20th January 2013 ( 9 am to 12 noon)
- GATE 2013 online examination - CH papers : Sunday 20th January 2013 ( 2 pm to 5 pm)
- GATE 2013 online examination - CS and ME papers : Sunday 10th February 2013 ( 9 am to 12 noon)
- GATE 2013 online examination - EC, EE and IN papers : Sunday 10th February 2013 ( 2 pm to 5 pm)
Result : The result of GATE 2013 will be declared on Friday 15 March 2013. The result of GATE 2013 will be announced at 10 am.
Application Form Fees:
Fees for GATE 2013 application form is based on the following categories-
- General / OBC (male candidates) - NC 1200/- Rs.
- SC / ST / PD (male candidates)- Rs. 600/-
- Female candidates - Rs. 0 /-.
